Every December, I use my Author Update to reflect on the year that was. I like doing this because working on the book is slow going, and progress often only becomes apparent when looking back.
For this year’s update, I thought I would do something a little different and reflect on the book project as a whole. You see, January marks the 10th anniversary of when I started writing it, and I think it’s important to acknowledge just how far I’ve come.

The past month was both super busy and very productive. Rachael was traveling for two weeks, and then my family from Costa Rica was in town. Despite the chaos, I was able to finish Act 2B ahead of my deadline, which means that the magical realism rewrite is now 75% complete!
A bit of a shorter update this month, not because I’ve been busy with other work, but because I’m making a ton of progress and I want to keep working on my rewrite! As of today, I’m nearly 75% done.
Well, it’s been a busy two months coaching Ultimate Frisbee, and I honestly don’t have much to report on the writing front as the season took up most of my time. As I wrote in previous updates, my plan for the book is to finish the magical realism rewrite by September so I can pitch agents in the
