Every December, I use my Author Update to reflect on the year that was. I like doing this because working on the book is slow going, and progress often only becomes apparent when looking back.
For this year’s update, I thought I would do something a little different and reflect on the book project as a whole. You see, January marks the 10th anniversary of when I started writing it, and I think it’s important to acknowledge just how far I’ve come.

This past month has been exciting, as I started working with Claude AI to run through a series of story-related exercises. This was a surprising development because I’ve been skeptical of AI for a while now. I’m not opposed to the technology per se, but I think it has been overhyped.
This month, I’m excited to announce Los Testigos (The Witnesses), a membership program, where you will bear witness to my magical realism rewrite as it unfolds. The name reflects both the story I’m telling (about forced disappearances and recovered truths) and the role you will play in shaping it.
Today, I have some exciting news to share with you. I plan to resume work on my magical realism rewrite in November and will be launching a new Early Reader Experience to coincide with this effort.
